Turkey’s wind market has an important and exclusive position thanks to the wind potential it possesses. Since 2008, Turkey has been one of the most significant actors in the global wind market in terms of both market and industry. Owing to the great contributions and efforts of our local and international stakeholders, our installed capacity has reached 7.6 GW within the past 10 years. Furthermore, our production of wind power plant components such as blade, towers and generators have made major contributions to the development of Turkey’s local industry, and have provided our producers the opportunity to become part of the global supply chain.
However, it is undeniable that the wind market has witnessed a slowdown over the last two years, so much so that while 1.500 MW of capacity was installed in 2016, only 497 MW of capacity were commissioned in 2018. Rather than becoming pessimistic in face of this picture, TWEC’s biggest goal has been to work hand-in-hand with the public and private sector to overcome the economic shrinkage that is currently affecting the market, and to bring back our annual installed capacity above 1 GW. To this end, we believe that it is highly important for each and every stakeholder to embrace the TWEC 2019 event.
In this context, we shall be organizing the 8th Turkish Wind Energy Congress (TWEC 2019) on 5-6 November 2019, in Sheraton Hotel, Ankara, with the participation of high level government representatives from the fields of energy, industry and finance.
As the President of TWEA, I will be honored to see you among the stakeholders who supports Wind in Turkey.
